Two of Harcourts corporate leadership have been named to the Elite Agent magazine’s annual list of real estate influencers. Harcourts Director of Professional Development Irene Green and Harcourts International Property Management CEO Sadhana Smiles were amongst the list of the top 50 influential people in the industry.
Cited for moving the industry forward in different ways, from creating change by amplifying their voices on stage to improving the industry for participants in various ways, the influencers named are a mix of people from all areas of business.
“I’m incredibly proud of Irene and Sadhana for the contributions they make within the Harcourts group as well as in the industry as a whole,” said Harcourts International Managing Director Mike Green.
As a founding owner of Harcourts, Mrs Green has long championed high standards in training for those employed in real estate and founded the Harcourts Academy. Harcourts is one of the only real estate groups in Australia to also double as a Registered Training Organisation, offering mandatory sales training programs for sales consultants who are new to the industry to help them become registered real estate salespersons.
From the role of Head of Harcourts Academy, which serves all nine countries in which Harcourts operates, Mrs Green took on a new role of Director of Professional Development with a focus on people and culture, to create well-rounded, happy and capable Harcourts corporate team members.
In 2016, Mrs Green created Harcourts Inspirational Women, an international series of events where women share their personal stories of courage and achievement, with a corollary goal of supporting a movement for women to have more options to speak on a national stage.
“Being amongst the list is an honour as there are so many people who work hard every day to improve this wonderful industry,” said Mrs Green. “It was a lovely surprise to be included.”
Ms Smiles echoed the thoughts and offered that the list reads like a who’s who in real estate.
“Everyone on the list are doing wonderful things in the industry,” said Ms Smiles. “Our industry provides wonderful opportunities at all levels in business. I recently moved into my new role focused on property management, this part of our business is facing massive change over the coming years and as a group we intend to be leading the change, not following it.”
In 2013 Ms Smiles was named the Victoria Telstra Business Women and in 2016 the AFR/WBC 100 Most Influential Women in Australia. She served as CEO of the Harcourts Victoria group from 2013-2018 before taking on a new role within Harcourts International as CEO of Property Management.
Ms Smiles is not just an in-demand speaker and author, but also founded the Harcourts Walk a Mile event in 2013. To say she is passionate about ensuring we leave this planet a better place is an understatement. Her leadership style has always had a focus across three elements in business – people, profits and planet.
She is the founder of Links Fiji a not for profit focused on testing women in rural areas of Fiji for cervical cancer. (The mortality rate from this cancer is extremely high) She is the ambassador for Australia Centre Human Rights and Health- Dowry Abuse, a White Ribbon Advocate and sits on several boards. As only a handful of ethnic leaders in Australia she has a strong voice on the discussion of Diversity and Inclusion in business. She recently ran an ambition survey across the real estate community designed to understand why there is a lack of female leaders, the ambitions of women in this sector and how do we bring them up into leadership positions.
As Elite Agent magazine stated in its announcement of the list, “As a fitting end to 2018, we would like to acknowledge those who have inspired our readers and changed the industry for the better over the past 12 months.”
